The Druk Path Trek is a classic trekking route in Bhutan, offering a captivating journey through the kingdom’s pristine natural landscapes and ancient cultural sites. This moderate-level trek follows an ancient trading route that connects the valleys of Paro and Thimphu, two of Bhutan’s most iconic destinations. Over the course of the trek, trekkers traverse through dense forests, alpine meadows, and high mountain passes, encountering stunning vistas of snow-capped peaks, crystal-clear lakes, and traditional Bhutanese villages along the way. The Druk Path Trek is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, diverse flora and fauna, and opportunities to immerse in Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage, making it a memorable adventure for outdoor enthusiasts and cultural explorers alike.
Day 1: Arrival in Paro
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day resting and acclimatizing to the altitude. In the evening, explore Paro town and visit nearby attractions such as the National Museum and Rinpung Dzong.
Day 2: Paro to Jele Dzong
After breakfast, drive to the starting point of the trek. Begin your trek with a gradual ascent through pine forests, passing by traditional Bhutanese villages. Arrive at Jele Dzong, an ancient fortress offering panoramic views of the Paro valley. Set up camp near the dzong and enjoy dinner amidst the serene mountain surroundings.
Day 3: Jele Dzong to Jangchulakha
Start the day with a hearty breakfast before continuing your trek. Traverse through rhododendron forests and alpine meadows, with opportunities to spot native wildlife along the way. Arrive at Jangchulakha, a beautiful campsite surrounded by pristine nature. Spend the evening relaxing and soaking in the breathtaking views.
Day 4: Jangchulakha to Jimilangtso
Embark on a moderate hike towards Jimilangtso Lake after breakfast. Follow the trail along mountain ridges, marveling at the snow-capped peaks and deep valleys. Arrive at Jimilangtso Lake, a sacred alpine lake nestled amidst the mountains. Set up camp near the lake and enjoy a peaceful evening under the starlit sky.
Day 5: Jimilangtso to Simkota
Enjoy breakfast with stunning views of the surrounding mountains before beginning your trek. Traverse through scenic mountain trails, gradually ascending towards Simkota Pass. Cross the pass and descend into the valley, arriving at Simkota Lake, another picturesque alpine lake. Settle into your campsite near the lake and relax after a rewarding day of trekking.
Day 6: Simkota to Phajoding
After breakfast, embark on the final leg of your trek towards Phajoding Monastery. Descend through dense forests of rhododendron and juniper, passing by traditional Bhutanese villages along the way. Arrive at Phajoding Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking Thimphu valley. Explore the monastery and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains before retiring for the night.
Day 7: Phajoding to Thimphu
Wake up to the sound of chanting monks and enjoy breakfast with stunning views of the valley below. Begin your descent towards Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. Arrive in Thimphu and transfer to your hotel for a well-deserved rest. Spend the evening exploring Thimphu’s vibrant markets, shops, and cultural attractions.
Day 8: Thimphu Sightseeing
Explore Thimphu’s cultural attractions today, including the Folk Heritage Museum and the National Textile Museum. Visit the Buddha Dordenma statue for panoramic views before heading to the Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal. Enjoy the evening at your leisure.
Day 9: Thimphu to Paro
After breakfast, drive back to Paro and check into your hotel. Spend the day at leisure, exploring the charming town or relaxing at your hotel. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner to celebrate the completion of your Druk Path Trek.
Day 10: Paro Exploration
Spend the day exploring Paro at your own pace. Visit the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang) or explore the nearby Kyichu Lhakhang. Alternatively, you can opt for a cultural tour of Paro town and visit local markets and handicraft shops.
Day 11: Departure from Paro
Transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward journey. Bid farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon, taking with you cherished memories of your Druk Path Trek adventure.
